I'm starting to feel just a little jinxed. We've had so much happen in the short time we've been away that it's hard to believe that it could all go wrong. I can promise you this, all of this has happened to us but the positive side is that it could've been much worse (some days I wonder how).
We were heading into town to do some shopping. Being a warm day I thought I'd turn the car on to cool it down while we got in. It made a funny clicking noise and wouldn't turn on. I let Jamie know there was something wrong with the car. He got out his gadgets and figured out the battery was dead. He has some fancy gadget to jump start your car, but the battery was so flat that it just wouldn't do the job.
While we waited for the roadside assistance to come and jump start the car Little miss and I played on the playground. It wasn't long before the car was running and everything was fine. We didn't need to get a new battery, we figured out why the battery got drained.
We had left the GPS and the dash cam both on (not realising that we had) and not turned the car on for a few days. I had also bumped one of the switches in the tub which turned on one of the lights (oops). It took me bumping the switch another time in the dark to realise what Jamie was talking about.
We took the car for a good run to charge the battery and with any luck wont have any more issues.
Lessons we learned:
- Sometimes cars suck
- When cars don't start you have to change your plans
- Roadside is worthwhile
- Jump start gadget needed to be charged
- Don't leave the GPS or dash cam on while the car is off
- The GPS and dash cam if left on can and will drain the car battery
- The buttons in the tub turn on lights
- Make sure the buttons aren't bumped or are turned off if they are
