Of course just as we start to relax a little something like this throws a spanner in the works. This happened the day before we were supposed to move. We were very slowly packing down but not everything (big mistake) in preparation for leaving the next morning. I wasn't really happy about packing down the annex so stubbornly dug my heels in on the one (sorry Jamie). To keep Little miss occupied I put on a movie and tucked her into the corner while I slowly packed and organised bits and pieces.
After a little while I looked at her and realised she was a bit pink in the cheeks. When I felt her she was hot, a quick check with the thermometer (a must when travelling with children) and sure enough she had a temperature of 39 degrees. I called a local GP and they told me to head straight to ED. We hadn't really been close to other people and there was no active cases in Coffs Harbour so we were pretty sure that it was something else.
Anyone who has had the Covid 19 swab will know that its pretty awful (its worse than the whooping cough one). Little miss wasn't happy at all but it had to be done. Unfortunately by the time everything got sorted with Little miss it was 5 pm. I called the reception to let them know what was going on and they arranged to move us to an ensuite site (to self isolate while we waited for 3 days for the test results).
Poor Jamie had to move the camper trailer while I was in ED with little miss. He said the neighbours would've heard all the Velcro madly being ripped apart and stuff just chucked everywhere as well as watching the entire trailer being moved while still up. Unfortunately with very little light he had no other option. We finally got back from the hospital, with antibiotics for Little miss suspecting an infection rather than Covid 19.
I have to say the staff at the Big 4 were really helpful, they called to check up on how we were settling in and how Little miss was going. We organised a delivery of groceries from Woolworths, as we'd run our groceries down before moving. I'm sure they were as relieved as we were when we got the expected negative test results back 3 days later. Little miss was bouncing back to normal within 24 hours of starting her antibiotics so we were pretty confident but still stuck with self isolating as required.
Before this happened to us, I hadn't really given a lot of thought about what we would do if we had to self isolate for a period of time. When we left we decided not to bring the portaloo with us but after this experience I wished we had. I wished we'd put a little more thought into what would happen if we had to self isolate. Everything is always easy in hindsight.
Lessons we learned:
- Make a Covid 19 plan
- Be flexible
- When sick get tested no matter how low the risk is
- Covid 19 sucks
- Big 4 Staff at Sawtell are amazing
- Rock painting is engaging
