The Great Escape Part 2

I think we must be slow learners, more than one lesson we've had to take more than once to learn it.  If you missed the first one you can catch it here.  Since Little miss escaped last time we've been much more aware of keeping zips up high and knowing where she is.  Overnight we have a door that we close, it makes me feel better knowing she can't just go wandering out in the middle of the night.

When we explored Boulder Beach I thought it would have a really nice view of the sunrise.  Occasionally I wake up early with the birds, so I thought I wouldn't set an alarm I would just go for a walk down to the beach one morning when I was woken early.  I'd told Jamie my plan, but not mentioned it again.

Sure enough Week 11 and just before we're due to move on I wake up early.  I check my phone for when sunrise will be, I had 5 minutes to get to the beach.  I haphazardly chucked some clothes on and legged it to the beach. It was a 10 minute walk so I missed a little bit of the sunrise.  There was another person there photographing the sunrise, with their fancy tripod and had obviously been there a while.

I did what I do best, point and click a few times and then watched the view.  It was amazing. There was a seabird that caught my attention and I watched it fly out to the cove. There were quite a few birds all hovering around.  By this time the sun was well and truly up and the other photographer had disappeared.  I was really hoping that the seabird would fly close again, I'd seen a few each time we'd been there and was hoping for a picture.

Just when I was about to give up I got a glimpse of a dolphin.  I then spent the next half an hour madly snapping away in the hopes of getting a photo of a dolphin.  I was so excited to see the dolphins. They were chasing a school of fish in and out of the cove having a feast.  When I looked at the time I realised that I should probably head back for breakfast.

When I got back to our site I found Little miss playing in the annex.  The first thing she said was Mum I went looking for you I couldn't find you.  When I asked her what she meant, she showed me how she unzipped a flap and where she looked for me (around our car) before heading back inside. I must've been a bit noisier than I had thought when I left and she must've heard me leave.  We had to have a big talk about if she wakes up early and I'm not there that she needs to get into my bed and keep it warm for me until I get back.

I also have to make sure that I shut the door, and not leave the stairs out.  I'm also happy to report she has since enjoyed snuggling in my bed until I get back.  I can usually tell when she is because there is a giggly lump on my side.

Lessons we learned:

  • I wake up early
  • I can walk quickly when I put my mind to it
  • Other photographers are more organised than me
  • The sunrise is amazing over the ocean
  • I love seabirds
  • I love dolphins
  • I could watch dolphins and seabirds all day
  • It's nice watching the sunrise by yourself
  • I can take heaps more photos on a cliff top without Little miss
  • I got some amazing photos of dolphins
  • I'm not anywhere near as quiet as I think I am
  • Little miss will come looking for me
  • The door has to be shut behind me if I don't want her to follow me
