To See In NSW - Sharpes Beach

Sharpes Beach is a beautiful beach located near Lennox Head.  It's a patrolled beach, with very friendly life guards.  It was also in the news recently, there was a shark sighting with a pro surfer being circled by the shark.  It's quite a long beach so plenty of room to spread out and not be on top of other people.  Off the bike path you can walk up to the headlands and get a really nice view of the beach (as well dolphins and whales at the right time of year).  The headlands aren't fenced and do drop off steep cliffs so care needs to be taken with small children.

One day I took Little miss to the headland and said to her I'd pay her a coin if I saw dolphins and one if I saw whales.  I didn't think I would be lucky enough to see both in the one day. Sure enough I had to pay out that day.  We watched the dolphins riding the waves just below us. There was a pod of whales swimming past as well, we could see the spouts of water. They didn't breach until they got down the other end of the beach (just my luck) but I was just happy to see them swimming past.  We watched for ages (although little miss could've left after a few minutes, I think she was having trouble looking the right direction to spot them).

Sharpes beach is about a 2 km walk from the Big 4 Ballina Headlands, all on a bike path.  We spent a lot time playing at this beach and paddling in the water. Even having a picnic on the beach.  It does get a bit windy but that never stopped us from heading to the beach.
