Settling into a new caravan park takes time (if you missed Week 8 Recap). We like to explore what facilities they have and where everything is located. We have found that mid week, little miss is often the only kid in the park. We take advantage of the opportunity to have the playground all to ourselves. It's very important for little miss to test everything out. Big 4 Ballina headlands has a huge chalkboard, they ran a drawing competition in the holidays, this was a favourite activity for little miss.
We decided that we wanted to go Byron bay before the school holidays started. When going to Byron Bay, we couldn't miss out on going to the EASTERN MOST POINT OF AUSTRALIA (first one down 3 to go). We parked at Palm Valley and walked along the track past Wategos Beach and then up very steep steps to the top. We got to see whales just as we were leaving.
I love exploring different beaches in Australia. A short walk from the caravan park in BOULDERS BEACH. Boulder beach isn't a swimming beach for kids and there are heaps of rocks rather than sand. There's a track that leads up to the headlands and is beautiful to look down on. Little miss has been having trouble with the Velcro on her hat staying closed. Add a windy day and I had to stop her from chasing her hat over the cliff top. That was the day I decided I needed to stitch the Velcro together to stop her hat blowing off.
The MACADAMIA CASTLE was on our list of places to visit. Unfortunately the cafe and gift shop was closed for renovations when we visited, we've heard good things about the pancakes. There were heaps of opportunities to feed the animals and listen to the animal talks. Little miss played mini golf for the first time, it was very funny to watch.
The caravan park has Go-Karts you can hire, we had a great time on a double Go-Kart. An hour on the Go-Karts is a really long time, especially when little miss kept pressing the fast button on the Go-Kart. She loved going fast over the speed bumps, with no padding on the seat it was less fun for me. There were a few speed bumps with the gap in the middle, I liked those ones the best. I could line it up so little miss bumped and I didn't. We did slightly crash once, but we recovered quickly with no damage to any of us.
Lessons we learned:
- Chalkboard drawing is great fun
- The walk to the eastern most point of Australia is hard work
- I almost didn't make it up the last 50 m
- Parking in Byron Bay is super expensive
- Windy days and cliff top headlands need extra thought
- Velcro hat fasteners don't work after sand
- Animals are fun to feed
- Mini golf is funny to play with Little miss
- Go-Karts are hard on your legs
- 1 hour on the Go-Karts is a long time
- The Go-Karts have no padding
- Little miss loves going over the speed bump
