Not many people will just pack up their belongings, sell their house and hit the open road. We did just that. However when we first packed up and sold our house we planned to move interstate and resettle. We also planned for it to be a short term situation.
Our house sold after being on the market for 9 days, we were obviously thrilled but it also meant moving quickly and just before Christmas. Luckily we were able to move in with Jamie's Mum. She very generously opened her home to us, while we decided where to move to and to make the necessary preparations to move.
Unfortunately covid 19 struck. Like most people we locked down and waited it out. It was toughest for our daughter, being high risk and 3 years old she didn't really understand. When restrictions started to lift again, we, like most people visited family again. That was when Mr Butinski and Mrs Meddler (my parents) did what they do best and meddled in our lives..
They meddle with love, and it's not just our lives they meddle in. They make suggestions that we don't always think of, and sometimes we do they and other times we don't. They never get offended when we don't.
Jamie and I had discussed travelling Australia and seeing the big things, but never really thought it would happen as a big trip. So when they suggested it, we looked at each other and couldn't think of a reason not to do it. Jamie's truck with just about done, we had no job, no house and all our stuff was in storage. The only thing we needed was something to live in.
Jamie had been researching camper trailers for a while. We had owned a second hand camper trailer before we sold our house but we had sold it. Jamie had his eye on ezytrail camper trailers. On our way back for our visit to my parents we had a look at a few different caravan shops and decided we definitely didn't want a caravan. We could've towed a caravan with his current car but we would've felt more comfortable upgrading.
The day we went to ezytrail I very clearly said we're just looking today, not buying anything. We had a look at the Stirling model that Jamie had been looking at for a few years. I wasn't overly impressed, mainly because we would have to pack up the dinnette for our daughter to have a bed.
When I saw our camper trailer I pointed to it and said I want that one. Jamie just laughed, because we were just looking and here I wanted to buy it.
They had a brand new model set up on the floor, Lincoln lx mk 3. We looked through it, double bed on 1 side and king bed on the other, the dinnette folds down for another double bed (We won't use it on our lap), out in the annex the kitchen slides out with a fully plumbed gas cook top with 4 burners as well as a sink that has hot and cold water. On the other side we have a slide out drawer for the fridge and drawers with pantry items. Shower hose on the back, and an added ensuite tent. It came with the fridge and portaloo. It also has a tv, DVD player and speakers all set up.
We aren't roughing it by any means, and I knew when I saw it that it would be perfect for us.
Everyone will have their own must haves and will choose a caravan or a camper trailer. Some people must have a toilet, it's not a huge issue for us. Some people won't want to spend the time to set it up, it takes about 15 mins to set up the inside but the annex adds on about 45 mins for set up time. We chose an off road trailer so we can take it everywhere and not be limited. Also by having a camper trailer we have to pack smart.
So we bought our camper trailer, added the electric breaks to Jamie's car and set out.
We are no experts at travelling. We had camped pre baby (she's almost 4) but nothing like this.
