Week 15 Recap

Little miss was still on a high after her BIRTHDAY PARTY IN THE PARK (if you missed our Week 14 Recap) and loved her presents. She got more chalk, bubbles and craft packs.  All things she absolutely loves and spent ages playing with. We went for a walk to MCDOUGALL'S LOOKOUT, and explored in and around the track. The butterflies were amazing and little miss stood for ages with her finger out hoping a butterfly would land on it.  None did. I was impressed with how long she waited with her finger out.

The wind was quite strong, 40 km+ wind (with much stronger wind gusts), and I have to say that I find the winds worse than the rain. I've noticed that palm trees get really noisy with the strong winds, something I'd never noticed before travelling full time.

Jamie went fishing with his friend for a few hours, he caught 1 flat head but it was a bit too small and got thrown back.  I'm sure the winds made it not great for fishing.  While Jamie was fishing we were looking at birds and exploring the beach.  There were some amazing shells, seaweed and rocks all along the beach. Little miss has such a great imagination and made her own fishing rod (a piece of wool) with a hook (hair tie) and a lure (my camera battery cover) and threw her line in the water.  She did find it funny when she caught something on her fishing line.

We found a local shop that sold ice creams (my favourite) and Little miss decided she needed to dress up to get ice cream. Her outfit included a unicorn headband that I ended up getting to wear (so fashion as she would say). We were too late and the cafe had closed, so we went over to the local shops and picked out an ice cream on a stick.  We finished up our afternoon with a play at the playground and a walk along the beach.  A seagull decided that it didn't like me wearing the unicorn headband, swooping down a few times before I decided to take it off and it left me alone. We saw some weird marking in the sand by the edge of the water, and found it was sea snails.  Little miss was really curious about the sea snails. She played in the water for a while before we noticed bluebottles washed up on the sand.  Little miss liked looking at the bluebottles (she wasn't game to go too close which was a relief) and pointing them out as she saw them.

Our last day in Corindi Beach and we had another severe thunderstorm warning with threats of hail. Nothing came of it but I left the walls up for a little extra protection.  We don't eat out a lot so pack up day we often treat ourselves to take away (and I've often packed everything away to make moving day easier) and this time we had really delicious fish and chips from the local shop. We did also manage to get to the ice cream shop on time as well, I love ice cream.

Moving day and again we had issues with the electric brakes. A little fix with some sand paper and hopefully they will be sorted for the next few stops. They are now on the list of things to check while we get the camper trailer repaired.

A new day brings a new caravan park.  This time Reflections at Scotts Head. It was a bit of a bumpy road in (not as bad as Evans Head) and very windy just off the highway, the winds didn't help much either.  First impression weren't good. We ended up on a grass site (no grass in sight) down the bottom end of the caravan park, which was hard for Jamie to swing the trailer in but he managed very well. The site is really uneven and littered with rocks and random blobs of concrete.  Jamie levelled out the trailer as best as he could but it still has a bit of a lean to the back.

The bathrooms were completely filthy, so much so that I complained to the front desk at how disgusting they were and banned little miss from going near them. Setting up the winds were pretty bad, the guys from the site next door ended up helping hold poles so we could get it erected quickly. Its not perfect but it will do for the few days we're here.  With the ground being so uneven and the rocks and concrete we decided to save our floor from being trashed and only put up the front and side walls to the annex.  There was trees and sand dunes behind us so no need for the privacy and just extra work in a few days time.

First morning at Scotts Head and I was down to FORSTER BEACH for sunrise. There was a pod of about 20 dolphins swimming along the shore (it almost made up for the bad site). I didn't get a great view of the sunrise (not the best beach for viewing the sunrise) but I didn't care. I loved that the shops were so close, a really short walk from the caravan park.  I was also pleasantly surprised that the local grocer wasn't really expensive.

We decided to have a sand castle competition on Forster Beach one afternoon.  We all had 30 minutes to each make a sandcastle and decorate it.  We had a few buckets, spades, a rake and some sand moulds. We decorated with different shells we collected from the beach. Little miss had so much fun. She started with helping Jamie and then decided to make her own.  We decided that she was the winner of the competition and won a little bag of lollies.

We did also have the LACE MONITOR INCIDENT, they are super noisy walking through the bush.  We did put the final wall, to make sure there weren't anymore uninvited guests in the annex.

The view of sunrise from LITTLE BEACH was amazing and I was the only one on the beach. Sometimes it feels like I'm the only one who's awake, it's lovely. With such a lumpy bumpy site the only way to keep Little miss semi clean was to eat inside breakfast and dinner. Little miss did get a special treat of breakfast in bed a few days, I just had to be careful with what she had for breakfast. I didn't want milk spilt through the bed to have to clean up. Lucky there were no major disasters.

Little miss has been wanting a turn of lawn bowls since our visit to Sawtell.  We had heaps of fun teaching little miss all about lawn bowls at the SCOTTS HEAD BOWLO and celebrating 100 day travelling full time.
