NAIDOC Week

The NRMA Break wall caravan park had an activity to celebrate NAIDOC week. Basket weaving. I've never weaved a basket before and it was really fun to do.  I booked just one spot and Little miss came with me and we did it together. Little miss picked the colours and went and got the next piece of raffia for me to continue weaving. I loved that we could choose the middle and they were all different.

The lady who was running the class said that often the women would sit around talking and telling stories.  Little miss found some story books (the class was held in the kids club) so naturally being the book worm she is, she went and grabbed some book and we sat weaving and reading stories.

They did also have some beautiful leaves and flowers in the middle of the mat and Little miss spent a long time playing with them.

Once the class was finished we proudly showed Jamie our little bowl. He thought we'd come back with this massive bowl but it's really only a small bowl, weaving takes a surprisingly long time to do. Little miss loves our bowl and has been playing with it every since.

We had a fantastic time and it was really interesting learning about the aboriginal culture.
