Little miss loves our visits to the wetlands. I love that the paths are so great and flat, that little miss has been practising riding her bike along the path, even around the race course a little.
I have gone wandering by myself a fair bit in the wetlands, exploring different areas. I was amazed to see up close and personal a colony of grey headed flying foxes, a vulnerable species, roosting in the trees.
I’ve seen many different species of birds, and met a few different of the locals who have been interesting to chat with. One lovely gentleman told me about the different places to see different birds and also about a bird book for bird species seen in the far south coast. It did take a little while but I managed to track down a copy in the Merimbula newsagents.
I’ve been lucky to see some gang gang cockatoos (male and female), superb fairy wrens, black faced cuckoo-shrike, swamp hens, white faced heron, welcome swallows, magpies, kangaroos, lizards to name a few.
This is a wonderful community project and I'm so glad that we’ve had such a wonderful time exploring the wetlands.
