To See In NSW - Potoroo Palace

This is a great wildlife sanctuary.  My favourite part is that the animals are all Australian.  There are so many amazing animals in our country so it’s great to be able to see them up close and personal.  There were a few that we didn’t see, like the koalas, dingos and potoroos but we got to see so many different animals.

This is beautifully set up and there is so much space. The lady at the desk was kind enough to give us some kangaroo food for free; there had been lots of people feeding them so she said they might not be too hungry.  We had a map and followed our way around the park.  There was so much to see and lots of outdoor games like ring toss or checkers that you could stop to play.  They have a train, but because of Covid 19 they can’t run the rides which was a little disappointing for little miss.

We saw a swan with angel wing; this can happen to birds when they’re fed bread.  The lady said that the swan can get a bit grumpy and has bitten children who have been mean to it in the past. It was in a fenced enclosure, the only way for it to bite you is to put your fingers in the enclosure.

When we found the kangaroos, they weren’t interested in the food at all.  I wasn’t too disappointed; we’ve fed them at many other parks before.

The reptile house took a little bit of patience to be able to find all the snakes, they had some great set ups.  We walked through an enclosure to see some of the birds. I swear little miss must be a crazy bird lady because the gang gang cockatoos were dancing for her and playing on the fence posts. I did have the male fly close to me as we were getting ready to go out the door.  I didn’t know if they were trying to get out the door or just flying close to us, either way it spooked me more than I’d like to admit.

We wandered past the pond to head on out, it was funny watching a moorhen nip at a turtle that was disturbing it building a nest on the platform.

There is a lovely little bird called Chuffy in an enclosure near the main building.  He loved little miss, and followed her along the edge of the enclosure. On the way back through he was talking to someone else on the other side of the enclosure, he came straight over to little miss. Confirming that she must be a crazy bird lady and she spent a while talking to him.

We did a little shopping in the gift shop and gave back the bag of kangaroo food. We also picked out an icy pole to have and had a bit of a chat with the lady on the desk.
