We did walk to the maritime museum on the fabulous bike paths they have around Huskisson. I was worried it would be hard to find or there wouldn’t be a path but it was so easy and the paths made it so easy.
On our way back from the museum we stopped in at the fudge addiction shop for some lollies and ice creams. It was probably lucky that we only stayed a few nights because this ice cream shop could’ve been dangerous.
I love that there are so many different birds all around the area. We saw a beautiful superb fairy wren on the way back, the first we’ve seen on our trip, as we walked along the path to the caravan park. I didn’t have much luck with sunrise photos at Huskisson, but I did catch a beautiful sunset which was equally as beautiful.
With the forecast of rain on pack up we decided to pack up the night before to keep everything dry. It did also mean that the back of the truck was a bit more full than usual because we put all the canvas in there to keep it dry. We do have a bag that we normally strap to the basket of the camper trailer, but thought it was safer not to have Jamie climbing all over the roof in the rain.
Our last day in Huskisson was a quiet rest day. It’s been something that we’ve been a bit more aware of since travelling full time. We all need a day to veg out and do nothing. It helps us recharge and enjoy the busy days exploring the towns we visit. My camera also came up with another error. I didn’t even have it back for a week and now it was a paper weight again. I made a few calls and found it was probably going to cost more to repair it than to replace it with a better model, so I ordered a new model. I have my new lens, so I stuck with getting another canon camera. It was on sale as well, 30% off, which made buying a new camera a little bit easier. I ordered it to pick it up in Bega, which means a few more days without it.
Moving day and of course it was raining over night so I was pleased with our plan to put the canvas for the annex in the back and glad that everything was just about packed up. We were visited by heaps of rainbow lorikeets, there seemed to be an endless supply in the caravan park. Little miss tried to pat them and we had to remind her that they are wild animals and not to be patted.
It was wet and slippery on the road with all the rain; luckily we were heading to Broulee for a quick visit so we knew the roads and the way there. When we arrived little miss got to decorate a small Christmas tree in our room, she had so much fun. We did have a slight issue with little miss unwrapping the little present decorations; no matter how many she opened she was always disappointed that they were the same. Lucky it didn’t matter if she wrecked the decorations.
We went for a walk along the bike, to check out the beach and the book exchanges (Little miss loves books). We decided that the tide was too high for us to wander on the beach, and with it being hot and humid that a swim in a friend’s swimming pool was in order.
We waited until the tide had gone down before exploring the rock pools at SOUTH BROULEE BEACH (the beach Jamie and I got married on). Little miss had lots of fun rock hopping while exploring the rock pools, even though I told her it wasn’t the safest thing to be doing around the rock pools.
Jamie made the yummiest roast pork for dinner; we don’t have an oven so we don’t get to have roasts very often. We were both very excited about a roast for dinner. Little miss had a couple of late nights, which always happens when we visit other people’s house.
We packed up the next morning, and took the little Christmas tree with us so little miss could have a little Christmas tree for Christmas day. We were planning to get on the road after lunch but the weather was looking a little iffy so we headed off around not long after breakfast. It was a 2 hour drive and we stopped off in Bega to pick up my camera.
I have to say the road between Moruya and Pambula was pretty terrible. Some really narrow bridges, and it was quiet slippery and very bumpy. Not the nicest to drive along. When we arrived at the caravan park, it’s very basic; we had a few tries to get the camper trailer on a mostly flat part of a sloping site. We did as we usually do after a long drive, Jamie unhitches and I take little miss to the toilet.
The park manager was really friendly, and very Aussie. Nothing is more Aussie than being told to get to the shops at sparrow’s fart to avoid the crowds.
I came back to find Jamie has the high lift jack out and the jockey wheel had collapsed at the front of the camper trailer. He managed to get the trailer up high enough to get the jockey wheel back under it and everything seemed to get back on track. I’m not sure if he did something different while we were gone or if it was just the slope of the site that did it but I was sure glad he had the high lift jack.
Once set up, Jamie promised that it wasn’t going to collapse on me, Jamie put up the fancy (fairy) lights around our camper trailer. It really was feeling more like Christmas. That night we saw that there were more bats flying over head. I love seeing the bats fly past, they’re so important to the environment so great to see them here too.
With Christmas approaching we decided to stick to our campsite as much as possible so that meant getting the shower out for the first time and the toilet (much to Jamie’s disgust). The shower hose had the short hose on, which I changed to the long hose and the fitting. It was easy to do and set up. Having the shower and toilet means little miss doesn’t have to go to the amenities block and neither do I.
We headed into Merimbula to do some grocery shopping. It was an absolutely beautiful town to visit, and very convenient. After packing away the shopping I started following the bike path to the beach. It was a fair walk and with threatening clouds I decided to turn back when I was half way there. Lucky I did it ended up rain, not hard rain but really light.
The last day of this week we headed back to Broulee for a Christmas party. It was much nicer driving back on that terrible road without the trailer. Little miss had such a fantastic time and made some friends while she was there. The girls had so much fun running around together. Little miss hardly ate anything but was desperate to have a can of fizzy drink like the other girls, I didn’t want to be a mean mum so let her have one. She had 2 sips and left the can with me. We stayed the night in Broulee before heading back the next day.
