This week we started off a little slower (if you missed Week 22 recap), coming up to New Years Eve it’s been getting a bit busy in town. There are heaps of Victorians which is great for all the businesses, but has meant that we’ve stuck closer to home. We went down and looked at the treasures in the local shops, even stopping at the lolly shop. Little miss had a great time picking out sherbet lollipops and spending a little bit of her money.
We spent the afternoon with little miss riding to the wetlands and riding up and down the path. Little miss is getting more confident the more she rides. Later on I left Jamie and little miss back at the caravan park while I went and walked around the race track by myself. Often little miss is chattering away while we walk or ride and I can’t stop for as long to look at the birds or plants. Any chance I get to go by myself I appreciate. I managed to see so many different animals, gang gang cockatoos, superb fairy wrens, butcher birds, grey headed flying foxes, new Holland honey eaters and kangaroos.
Merimbula is so close and convenient to visit, less the 10 minutes away. We headed in to do some shopping in there and for Jamie to get a haircut. The best part was picking out an ice cream and eating it under the seahorse statue on the main street.
We have had a slight pest issue inside the annex recently, a mouse. THE MOUSE INCIDENT was one I definitely could’ve done without. We did change again how we set up, mainly because we didn’t like the PVC floor. It was easily damaged on the concrete slabs, so we decided to get a rubber mat. In Huskisson we didn’t put the PVC floor down at all, just the rubber mat. Being on the concrete it made it easier and was soft under foot. When we put the rubber mat down in Pambula the grass poked through, so we put the PVC flooring down and then the rubber mat on top. The rubber mat was bigger than the PVC flooring so we had some overlap of the rubber mat. This gave the mouse the perfect spot to hide.
After spending New Years Eve cleaning, we definitely started the New Year with a lovely clean camper trailer. The next morning I had 4 loads of washing to do, lucky the park manager was so lovely he even gave me the first load for free. We got the news of some potential spots in Eden and Bermagui where some Covid 19 positive people have visited, so it’s back to being extra cautious and no more family grocery trips. I have to say I prefer shopping on my own, it’s much easier and quicker and we don’t end up with too many extras in the trolley. We headed out to Tura Beach to do our grocery shopping; it was pretty quiet and great to see all the staff wearing masks.
To make things a bit more even we have the agreement that one person does the dishes and the other puts little miss to bed. It gives us both a chance to have an evening off and little miss decides who she wants to put her to bed so it’s always different. I took the opportunity to go for a walk down to PANBOOLA WETLANDS and walked around the race track. I was pretty impressed with myself, it took me 40 minutes to walk from the pond all the way around the track and back to the caravan park. I only stopped to take a few photos and carefully walked around a very big kangaroo.
Another fun thing we love to do is going on a feather hunt. It’s amazing how many feathers you can find. We went for a walk through the bush and then all around the oval and found 12 feathers. Little miss loves to beat me to finding the feathers. We did also play fetch in the oval. I’m sure people think I'm a bit weird playing fetch with a child, but hey if she wants to pretend to be a puppy and play fetch who am I to stop her.
We have taken the opportunity to have a bit of R&R and staying close to home. Little miss has loved playing with her new toys and it’s been nice to relax. The caravan park also cleared our quite quickly with the border closures again. It’s sad to see as there were so many Victorian travellers and they all left almost overnight.
We ended the week with a wet and rainy day. We got some glow sticks out and little miss played with them all day; it’s amazing how much fun they can be. Our week wouldn’t be complete without another run in with a different animal. This time we had THE FROG INCIDENT. I think we’ve had enough animals intruding in our camper trailer for this week. Any ideas on how to discourage frogs from coming inside?
