Week 24 Recap

We had another wet start to the week again (if you missed Week 23 recap). We have some workbooks, and when little miss feels like going to ‘school’ we get them out and she does a page here and there. This week she realised some of them have stickers, so that inspired her to complete many pages. Lucky the weather was a bit miserable, so it was better than sitting in front of the TV.

We took a trip into Bega to do a little bit of shopping. There was a severe thunderstorm warning in place for most of the east coast; it didn’t eventuate down our way in the end.  We did miss most of it while we were in the shops. We do sometimes head to the shops with under cover parking when there’s the threat of hail, just one less thing to worry about getting damaged if it does end up hailing. We headed back past Merimbula; it was still drizzling when we got back there. Lucky I finally remembered to buy an umbrella while we were at the shops so I stayed pretty dry while in the rain.

The best part, for me, about being in the caravan parks are the different people that you meet.  I often meet people as we walked around the park, take the rubbish to the bins, and get the washing off the line. Jamie often wonders what’s taken so long for me to do a few simple things, but I love meeting new people and I'm always up for a chat. We did have another attack of the animals, but this time it was just a moth. This was by far the easiest to remove so far.

While we were at the shops little miss picked out a little present for one of her friends. The most exciting part for her was to wrap it and send it in the post. It makes it easier when the little town has a post office, and Pambula did. We also posted back the left over Christmas things that we don’t need to carry.  We find this is the easiest way to keep us clutter free, while still keeping sentimental items. We don’t post back things we don’t want to keep or can be easily replaced. We also don’t make a habit of posting back every week; we do the odd parcel here and there and make the most of what we want to send back.

We did have days they were beautiful and sunny, before turning overcast and raining on and off. This just increased the humidity, but the little bit of rain did cool it off for a little while. I did also get a chance to finally go down to the wetlands in the evening to catch a sunset.  It hasn’t been easy or worthwhile with the amount of cloud coverage we’ve had.

With a lot less cloud coverage I managed to slip in a few sunrise trips to PANBOOLA WETLANDS, with only a few days left I was pretty excited. We’ve had so much wet and cloudy weather while we’ve been here; it hasn’t been worth getting up. I did see a beautiful swan, I'm not sure what happened to it but it was really scared of me. I tried to keep away from it, mainly because I felt sorry for it that it seemed so frightened. While in Pambula we haven’t been to the beach, we had wanted to go a few times but the weather turned bad which then put a hold on those plans. There was a bike path and I could’ve walked there, but it was over 3km so it would’ve been a really long walk.

On our last full day in Pambula I started the morning with a sunrise walk to the wetlands. The mist was incredible. I went for a walk through the wetlands and ended up experiencing the KANGAROO CLOSE ENCOUNTER. That scared me. It scared me so much that I didn’t end up going back to the wetlands again.

We spent the rest of the day packing up, we were going to go to the beach and once again the weather wasn’t great and we ran out of time. Sticking to our tradition we had takeaway for dinner on pack up day. We had the most delicious pide from the kebab shop in Tura Beach. We did have plans to have a picnic on the beach, but it was too windy. Instead we sat at the picnic benches looking out over Merimbula. It was still windy, but not as bad on the beach. We did have a big wind gust knock some things off the table, but that was easily fixed. Before bed, just as I was about to have a shower a massive huntsman was right near the shower. This is only the second time we’ve had a huntsman in the annex. Not exactly the best thing to deal with when you’re ready to hop in the shower.

Moving day we had a late start. Little miss went to bed last night (not by our choice) and slept in until 8am, which is unusual for her. I didn’t want to wake her but at the same time we did have to get moving. When it came time to hitch the car back up, we had problems again because Jamie’s car is high with the suspension. When we arrived the jockey wheel collapsed and he had to jack it back up with the high lift jack. When he did that he couldn’t get the wood block under the jockey wheel, so when it came time to hitch up he couldn’t get it high enough to go on.

So out came the high lift jack again, but it didn’t go up high enough either. Jamie had to put a block of wood to raise it up so we could get the wood block under the jockey wheel. That did the trick and Jamie could wind up the jockey wheel and off we went. It was a quick trip to Eden, 20 minutes, and we stopped at the sign to get a photo. Little miss was so excited.

When we arrived at the caravan park we ended up getting a double slab, rather than the single slab that was originally booked. With the park not completely booked out, like it was when I originally booked, we got a much better site. We even have a nice tree out the front which gives us lots of shade from the western sun.

We got set up, changing things around again as usual. This time we put the rubber floor on the bottom and the PVC floor on top. That way it can be completely sealed, with no chance of mice getting it (I’m only slightly paranoid, can you tell?). Little miss got a book with different puzzles in it for Christmas from family, she spent ages putting the puzzles together which gave us uninterrupted time to get the annex and camper trailer constructed and everything set up.

Our first night we watched the sunset from our front door with a huge flock of cockatoos and corellas noisily flying around. Talk about a perfect view. Jamie got to know our neighbours while I went for a little walk to get some photos.

Our first morning in Eden and I was so excited to get up for the sunrise, not only was the beach across the road but the weather was great too. ASLINGS BEACH is perfect to watch the sunrise on, I was even treated to a pod of dolphins swimming up the beach. After the beach I wander along the edge of the lake and did a bit of bird spotting. I can’t believe how many birds are there, before heading back for breakfast.

We did a massive grocery shop, it makes it easier for me to do little top up shops between shops. The afternoon is more used to have a play. As usual we tested out the playground at the caravan park, I love the hammock and wish I could have one all the time.

On the last day of the week we made a trip to the ASLINGSBEACH ROCK POOL, it was a bit of a walk but nothing we couldn’t handle with the wagon.
