After breakfast I put on a load of washing. I almost died when I saw the price. $6 per load is the most expensive we’ve seen. Most are $4-$5 so it was a shock to see it cost more. This is the exact reason why I do so much hand washing. If you think about how often you do washing at home, it can get very expensive very quickly. I prefer to hand wash a few items each day to mean we can limit the use of the washing machines and keep it to no more than 1 load per week. It still adds up (1 load per week approx $260 per year, 2 loads approx $520 per year) and can’t be helped. We can’t wash towels and sheets by hand so do need to use the washing machines.
Eden and I ventured into town, it was a decent walk. The best part is the walk into town is uphill, making the return trip much nicer. It was quite windy and the wind knocked our hats off a few times. It was worth the walk, and we rewarded ourselves with icy poles when we got back. We played at the playground at the caravan park. It’s great when the park has a playground we can blow off so much energy before bed. It also gives little miss an opportunity to make some friends, which little miss did again.
One thing we found was Eden is quite a small town that does mean if we need anything more that we have to travel further than town. We made the trip to Bega again; it’s not too bad of a drive now we’ve done it a few times.
We’ve been pretty lucky; the double slab next to us has been empty. It has been the perfect canvas for chalk drawings. Chalk is such an easy activity and keep little miss occupied for ages. We had to get some more chalk; we had almost used up what we had. I even drew little paths and roads for little miss to ride her bike on.
The shower head broke while I was using it; it has a plastic screw on connection. I suspect when we moved it loosened when I undid it for storage. After attempting to fix it with superglue and having no luck little miss and I made the walk to Mitre 10 to get a new shower head. I was probably a little fussy when choosing, but I wanted to make sure that it wouldn’t happen again. I’m so happy with the new shower head, much nicer than the old one. It all works out in the end.
I love watching the sunrise over the water. I love watching the sunrise over the water with a massive pod of dolphins swimming from one side of the bay to the other. Aslings Beach didn’t disappoint. Word must’ve spread quickly through the caravan park because there were lots of people heading over to the beach when I was heading back.
We’ve had some really windy weather. When it’s windy I sleep in the car. Sounds silly when there’s a perfectly good bed in our camper trailer, but anyone who has trouble sleeping will understand that a peaceful sleep environment is key to a good night’s sleep. The top flaps and with the wind gusts as bad as they were my anxiety was through the roof staying inside. Little miss and I slept in the car and even the car was rocking from the wind gusts.
The weather app didn’t have the correct wind speeds; it was unlike anything I’ve ever felt before. Tents along the river were collapsing on themselves. The unfortunate thing for us was that there was no one parked around us. So we had no one else to buffer the wind and we copped it completely. The camper trailer held up well, we did move a few extra poles to the inside to give the inside better support because the wind gusts were pushing on the poles. As they went down they annex hooks would slip out. We did have a storm come right over the top of us as well. Right before the rain hit the wind died off. I ran around and shut all the windows and then reopened them after it was passed. It only lasted about 10 minutes.
The friend little miss had made at the playground was at the park for a few more nights. We had gone on a feather hunt and bumped into her friend and her parents. The girls played for ages, her friend even shared some treasures with little miss. I always feel really proud of little miss when she plays so well with another child her age. I also had a really nice chat with her parents. I know it’s more important for the girls to get along, but I know I want to stay longer when I get along with the parents. We chatted about travelling and the logistics of travelling full time. Those kinds of discussions also remind me of how lucky we are to get to travel full time. Jamie ended up calling me to find out where I had gone, we had been gone for quite a while. Ops, lucky I took my phone with me.
The weather wasn’t the best, but we still ended up at the beach. We had a few people recommend COCORA BEACH, so of course we had to check it out. After the beach I again went for a walk and got chatting to another couple who travel full time. Jamie called me again to find out where I had gone. Ops it’s easy to lose track of time when you’re too busy meeting new people.
I’m sure everyone who travels knows that everyone is on their own timetable, so when little miss had to say goodbye to her little friend she was incredibly sad. To try and cheer her up a little we had a play at the playground and went and visited the MARY MACKILLOP MUSEUM. We did some chalk drawings on the slab site next door, I even drew a little road and little miss had a lovely time riding on it.
With the weather being as unpredictable as it has been, little miss and I decided to go for a bike ride. Well she rides and I walk. It looked like it was going to be okay, and of course it starts spitting so we head back. We weren’t dressed for the wet, and we waited for the rain to stop. Once it stopped we headed out again. We rode past some more kids and of course little miss had to stop and chat to them. Just as we did the rain started again. Heavier this time, so I quickly pulled the bike along and we headed under the shelter of the amenities block to wait out the rain. On the way we had dropped a feather. Once the rain slowed little miss went back to find the feather and we called it a day.
The weather turned cold and of course I didn’t bring as many warm clothes thinking it was going to be warm weather, rookie mistake. The wind has been an absolute nightmare, this time swinging round and coming from the south. With all the wind we’ve become used to making sure the poles are readjusted as needed. Little miss and I explored the town shops, there is a great locally made art and craft store on the main street. We loved wandering through and even picked out a few treasures; including a jacket that little miss fell in love with. Unfortunately the way the town is situated there are a few streets that end up like wind tunnels. The wind just whips through, trying to avoid these streets in the winds we’ve been having is almost impossible.
After our trip into town I decided to explore the boardwalk around LAKE CURALO. It’s amazing to see the birdlife around the lake. I saw some birds I’ve never seen before which was exciting (for me at least).
Our last day for the week and the wind seems to have settled. Little miss and I walked into town (everyone always seems so surprised that we walk into town) and we had morning tea out the front of the KILLER WHALE MUSEUM. We then followed the winding path down towards the wharf. We saw a little sign for a walk along WHALE DREAMING TRAIL. We followed it along to a lookout, before heading back. I can see why they class the walk to the wharf as a difficult walk; the path is very steep even with the winding path.
