Day Trip - Mallacoota

I was up early to catch the sunrise. I was also really excited about finally being able to cross a border. We’ve been travelling for 6 months and it’s been a bit disappointing not to cross a border yet.  With the unpredictability of Covid 19 we can’t risk not being able to get back for my sister’s wedding, so we’ve stuck closer to home to make sure.

Now that the borders have opened, I’m so excited that we can go for a day trip to Mallacoota. Jamie and Little miss were a lot slower to get up and get moving but we were finally on our way to Victoria. The border check point was just before the turn off to Mallacoota. Little miss was excited to see the police at the check point (there were 3 lady police, as she says) and we got through the check point very quickly and we were on our way.

The road to Mallacoota was really narrow and winding. I’m glad that we weren’t towing, a few cars coming the other way towing were encroaching on our side of the road. It was also incredible to see the damage from the bushfires. Once we got to town Jamie found a cafe to have some breakfast (apparently I rushed him out the door too quickly) and little miss and I wandered through the treasure shops. Little miss found a glitter unicorn hair clip, of course she had to have it. Lucky she had some pocket money to spend; I think it’s great for kids to learn about money. We grabbed some morning tea and headed down to the WHARF.

After morning tea we decided to go for a drive to see a bit more of Mallacoota. We went to BASTION POINT; there is a great lookout over the beach. Wow the surf was rocking and rolling today. It was incredible.

Last stop on the places we visited was BETKA BEACH. There were more walking tracks in and around Betka beach that you could walk along.

We headed back to town for lunch by the water, followed by the all important ICE CREAM.

Before we knew it we were heading back across the border to Eden.  The day trip was short but sweet. I’m so glad that not only did we get to have the opportunity to cross the border, finally after 6 months travelling, but we also got to see an amazing town.  I can see why it’s so popular and why so many people flock to Mallacoota to visit.
