I will be the first person to admit, if I'd known what the road was going to be like I probably wouldn't have gone. It was 21 km of bumpy gravel road. Now I will admit I was surprised at how many regular cars were driving on it, until Jamie said that it actually wasn't that bad of a road. We do have a car done up to be able to go off road, I just don't really enjoy it like Jamie does.
We stopped at DISASTER BAY LOOKOUT, 16 km into our 21 km gravel road (I wasn't counting or anything). It was nice to have a little break from all the rattling. I know if I had have asked Jamie to turn around and go back, that I had had enough, that he would've turned around. With only 5 km of gravel road to go I decided I may as well see this lighthouse, we had come this far.
I'm glad that we did. The lighthouse looked spectacular, we picked the perfect day to visit. There is accommodation you can book, many hikers doing the light to light walk will book accommodation there for the end of their walk. The grounds were really well maintained and I can see why people are drawn there. There was even a weather station there.
The sea views were amazing, and there was even a wombat wandering around before disappearing down a hole. One of the cousins saw some seals lazing in the water out past the rocks where the Ly-ee-moon ship wreck occurred.
A quick stop at the toilets and we were back on the horrible 21 km gravel road. I wasn't looking forward to it but knew there was nothing else I could do about it. Surprisingly the road out was nice than the road in. I think it might have been that I knew I was never going back again, or it could've been better on the other side of the road.
