Afterwards we headed to the tourist information centre so
the cousins could pick out some treasures, if you’re looking for mementos of
Eden then this is the place to go. The wind had picked up and the windows at
the tourist information centre had started to rattle in the wind, I just can’t
believe how bad the wind has been. We had dinner with the cousins and had to laugh
a little when the spinach kept getting blown away with the wind. Everyone lost
at least a little bit of spinach. After dinner the kids played with the
football and Bocce ball. Little miss had lots of fun, playing with her cousins.
We even had a little bit of chocolate cake for dessert.
With the wind as bad as it was, I had had enough. I managed
to convince Jamie to leave Eden early, we had 5 extra nights booked, and we
ended up leaving on the same day the cousins headed for home. That meant that
we started packing up and pulling down all the fancy lights which was hard than
I thought it would be.
Our full day in Eden and we head to COCORA BEACH for a
picnic. We took an extra gas cook top just in case we couldn’t get a BBQ, it
ended up coming in handy and an extra table and chairs. As soon as we turned up
and get set up it starts to rain. The kids don’t mind, but we move under the
shelter to protect the food and furniture from the wet. After a play at the
beach and the playground we were ready to head back. We headed to the lookout
at Eden, but with the weather as miserable as it was there wasn’t much to look
at before heading to the KILLER WHALE MUSEUM with little miss.
Little miss loved the museum as much as I did, and we talked
about Old Tom for a while. On the way back to the caravan park we stopped for
an all-important ice cream. On the way back we stopped over at the cousins, and
of course the ice cream truck came through the caravan park. Little miss was
lucky to get a second ice cream.
Our last night in Eden and of course I was woken up again in
the middle of the night. It was such a relief to get up in the morning knowing
that we were heading off and we didn’t have to rush. Normally check out time is 10am, but because we
were booked for another 5 days, we took our time packing up and headed off
around midday. The cousins headed off around 10am and turned back to Eden after
the TYRE INCIDENT. By the time they were all sorted again we were both on the road
at lunch time. As we turned onto the highway, we watched them drive past, so we
sent them a message and arranged to meet them in Bega for lunch.
After lunch we went our separate ways and headed to Narooma.
We had a slight hiccup with a hose popping off the Cookie Monster. It was easily
fixed, and we were back on the road with no more problems. By the time we got
to Narooma it was 3pm and we were ready to be set up. By dinner time everything
was set up and it ended starting to rain. Perfect timing for us.
We spent our first day in Narooma exploring the town and checking
out the local op shop to replace a pair of pants little miss got holes in. No
luck finding any pants but we did find a pair of gloves little miss needed,
because she apparently has cold hands. She spent the next few nights falling
asleep with her gloves on. We got to go past the wharf and there was a snorkeller
swimming around. I did giggle a little when a massive stingray swam past him
and he just about jumped out of the water. He showed us where there was an octopus,
and it even came out to check his flipper.
The best part about staying at the Big 4 Narooma East is the
splash park. It is amazing. Little miss had so much fun playing in there, and
even on a cold and raining day it was so nice and warm playing in there. The
first time we went in, we were the only ones there to start with. Little miss bolt straight up the stairs to
the big waterslide. Not knowing to press the button to activate the water, she
slide down the entire slide like a slippery dip. We then found the button by
mistake while we were exploring and then had fun running around playing in the
various parts of the splash park. Little miss made friends with some other kids
at the splash and she had a ball. Little miss did have another go on the big
water slide with some other kids. She came through a lot quicker with the water
running. If you have kids and are going to Narooma this is the park to stay at.
With wet and rainy weather, the jumping pillow was out for
most of our visit. We were lucky for our entire stay we had the amenities block
entirely to ourselves. The park has 2 sides to it, the beach side and the village
side. After having so much trouble with the wind in Eden I asked for a well
protected spot and they offered to put us on the village side. It was fantastic.
It was a short walk across the road to the splash park, jumping pillow and the
camp kitchen but we got to have the quietness of being practically by ourselves.
The camp kitchen had an oven, and because we don’t have one
we took advantage of making self saucing sticky date pudding in the oven,
perfect for a cold day. While the pudding cooked, little miss and I played a
game of table tennis. Well we attempted to play table tennis and both failed
miserably. Little miss spent more time chasing the ball than actually hitting
the ball.
We had a little issue with our fridge on one of the really hot
days in Eden. We had someone come out and have a look at it and he said there wasn’t
any power to the fridge. Thinking it was another issue that would need to be
sorted when we get back to Sydney, we contacted the camper trailer people. Lucky
we did, one of the switches had tripped and as soon as we pressed it back on
the fridge came back to life and it was all sorted. Crisis averted.
We didn’t end up with great weather for the whole time we
stayed in Narooma, much of it was soaking rain. We do like to have rest days,
and on days when its wet and miserable we stick close to home. I was a bit too
excited about the cheap washing machines and dryers at Narooma ($3 per load for
the washing machines and you could pay $1 at a time for the dryers), they are
the cheapest we’ve paid up and down the east coast of NSW.
With all the soaking rain the drain in front of our site started
to flood. A lovely worker spent a fair bit of time digging out the leaves and
sludge before realising that there was no drainpipe and that it was all on sand
so it would drain away naturally once the rain eased. He did offer for us to
move sites but packing up and moving in the wet is such a pain it wasn’t worth
it for us. The water did drain away eventually.
With the rain easing little miss and I decided to go for a
walk to AUSTRALIA ROCK. Little miss decided it was a day for a wagon ride, but
on the way to Australia Rock we came across a playground and some friends to
play with. Little miss decided that playing at the playground was more fun than
going to see an old rock and when I saw the hill I had to drag the wagon up I decided
it was better not to go for now and instead drive there. I know its not like me
to want to drive somewhere I could walk to, but its nice to have a ride every
now and then.
On our way back from the playground we were treated with a
seal resting on the wharf. The 2 things I wanted to do most while we were in
Narooma was to see a seal out of the water (check) and to see Australia Rock
(check). I was over the moon.
On the only day there was sunshine we could hear the
rumbling of thunder in the distance. Of course, it ended up with another severe
thunderstorm warning right as we had headed to the splash park. We had shut some
the windows just in case, and my mum messaged me to let me know about the warning,
so I headed back and shut the remaining ones. We hung out in the camp kitchen
and waited for the storm to pass so we could go back to the splash park (priorities,
right?). We did have a dip in the heated pool first, and I have to say it was divine.
We had ice cream on the way back from the Splash Park and of course the drain
had puddled up again.
We checked everything after the storm, and nothing really
got wet other than little miss’s chair which dried quickly. The only issue we’ve
had with the annex is if there is a bubble in the Velcro then in heavy rain it
has a tendency to drip, so next stop we will readjust the Velcro and make sure there’s
no bubbles.
Our last day in Narooma and we went for a feather hunt
around the caravan park before heading out to see a few more slights before we
leave tomorrow. We stopped at the Visitor Information Centre to grab a post
card for my collection and they had the most amazing NAROOMA LIGHTHOUSE MUSEUM
hidden away in the back. Next stop was GLASSHOUSE ROCKS, we only hit a small
bump in the road which was a literal bumpy road. To get to Glasshouse beach is
a very bumpy dirt road and with the stress of GREEN CAPE LIGHTHOUSE still fresh
in my mind we kept to the bitumen and headed up towards the cemetery.
After a quick stop in town, we headed back for a swim in the
heated pool and a last play at the Splash Park. Little miss was a bit
disappointed to be having her last play at the Splash Park, and that her little
friend wasn’t there to play with. After our swim we packed down ready to move
on tomorrow.
