This week we are still trying to organise our caravan and settle back into our life together as a family (if you missed Week 33 recap). We decided to go for a drive and visit THE HONEY PLACE.
I love road side stalls with local produce. After seeing the bunch of bananas as we drove past so many times we had to stop and see what they had. We picked up the most delicious and cutest bananas. We also picked up some colourful cherry tomatoes and potatoes. The tomatoes were perfect in a salad.
I feel like I got a little creative and summoned my inner MacGyver. To try and stop the edges of the little miss's bed I zipped tied a tarp up. Well I started with just one. Mainly because that was what we had. It was surprisingly perfect in size and ease of attaching it. It just didn't cover the entire area, so I concentrated on the end Little miss sleeps first. Granted I did put it up in the rain, but I think I did a pretty good job.
I headed off for a first aid course and left Jamie and Little miss at the caravan park for the day. While Jamie and Little miss had fun playing at the play ground and doing craft with the craft box I was busy relearning first aid. I did think it would be a good idea to bush up on my knowledge with bites and stings, and it has inspired me to get some bandages and make a snake bite kit for when we head west. The instructor told me about bandages that show when you've applied it firmly enough, I must add it to my list. The one question I had about treating scorpion stings and the instructor wasn't sure. I did end up Googling it myself so now I know what to do if any of us get stung.
We had some friends that were visiting Coffs Harbour come for a visit. We had a BBQ and the kids had such a great time playing together. We pulled out some glow stick wands and the girls ran around on the grass throwing them up in the sky. It ended up being such a great night and the girls didn't want to go to bed.
And then came the rain. So much rain. I've never seen so much rain before in my entire life. Even driving the 5 minutes around the corner to drop little miss at preschool was scary. Even the locals that I spoke with said that it was worse than anything they had seen before. I did have a few phone calls from family after they saw the news with the floods. Luckily we were okay, and a few photos eased our families minds. The floods have absolutely devastated communities and it's been horrible watching just how many people have been affected by this flood.
Jamie went away with his friends to QLD for the 4 wheel drive show (not the best weekend to go) so I was by myself for the rest of the rain event. I was grateful for a couple of days that little miss could get out of the caravan and have a play at preschool, even if they couldn't go out to play. I did get an email to ask for an early pick up on the second day, they were worried about the creek behind them flooding.
It was odd to have a day with blue sky in the middle of such a big rain event. But it did happen and while we had blue sky we took advantage of it. We played at the play ground, went and got an ice cream from the shops up the road and we went for a swim at the pool. Before settling in for a lazy afternoon. Little miss was desperate to paint her nails, so she did her toes and I did her fingers. We painted them in a rainbow. Of course just as we start painting the rain starts again. So we sat on the deck at the camp kitchen until they were dry.
The one thing that brings rain is frogs!!! And I will admit that I did stand in the rain for a lot longer than I should've and got soaked. It was the cutest frog. The birds were also so soaked. We did wake up to a weird noise, I opened a window and peeked out and not seeing anything I went back to bed. When it happened again I went outside to investigate. Sure enough I found a bush turkey sitting on the roof of the caravan. I'm not sure how it got there, but it did fly down without any encouragement.
With torrential rain, and a severe weather warning for almost the entire state of NSW we stuck close to home, wondering if Jamie was going to be able to make it back. Little miss thought it was hilarious when I said she could have a PJ day and it was even better when I said it was a movie day. She bought all her kids into our bed and we watched some movies before she packed all her kids into a bag so they didn't run away. Jamie made it back late, better late than never.
