First, we watched the venomous snake show. Little miss was a little scared and clung to me the entire time. Dan was a fantastic presenter, very knowledgeable and funny and answered any questions we had. He even busted a few myths about snakes. They had first aid kits for sale with snake bite bandages (definitely add a couple to your first aid kit if you don’t have some in there already). I didn’t realise that if you try to squeeze out the venom that it acts like a vacuum and spreads quicker. By applying a bandage, it gives you 12-24 hours to get to a hospital, and when there they will swab the wound to determine the type of snake. If there’s blood, then it should be treated as a snake bite.
Next stop was the dinosaur tent with Dinkum Dinosaurs. They had baby robotic dinosaurs to look at, as well as a dancing dinosaur show. There was a dinosaur puppet show as well. There were some small dinosaurs you could sit on as well, little miss liked these. She wasn’t so sure about the dancing dinosaur or the puppet show, but you can’t win them all.
We went past the pig races and saw that there was still a bit of time before the first pig race of the day. We looked through the pavilion and were excited to see that we had both won prizes on the photos we sent in.
A slushie in a big pink drink bottle (of course very essential) a dagwood dog and a show bag were all next on the list for the full show experience. Little miss did want to have a few goes on the rides and side shows, but we managed to avoid them this time.
Watching the pig races was a highlight. Each race 6 different children got the chance to pick a different pig and name them for the race. As soon as little miss saw the pigs she thought the name Piglet, was perfect. The green pig was named piglet for us for the rest of the day and little miss was sure it would win every time.
We went to the petting zoo next, there were so many animals to pat and cuddle and they were really cute. There were some guinea pigs to cuddle and pat and I’m sure little miss pat and cuddled every single one of them. The baby alpacas looked so cute, they had the biggest eyes and softest fur. Trying to get little miss away from the petting zoo was the hardest thing I had to do all day. Little miss would’ve stayed there all day.
We watched some wood chopping, horse and chariot races and explored what else the show had. After a few hours we headed over to our cabin and checked in. We stayed at Homestead caravan park. The cabin was small but had everything we needed. We had a rest before heading back to the show for a few more pig races and another snake show. After a full day, and both of us feeling pretty tired, we headed back to our cabin for the night. We were going to go back for the fireworks, but I was too tired to go back. Instead, we had an early night. It was lucky we decided on an early night because the power went out and didn’t come back on before we left the next morning.
