Week 12 Recap

Here we are at Week 12 already (if you missed Week 11 Recap), time is flying by.  This week started off with moving day on the Monday.  I have to admit moving day is always stressful, we haven't figured out how to reduce that stress yet. It will probably get easier as we go. We were a little slow packing up in the morning and then had an issue with the electric brakes coming up with an error.  Luckily it was an easy fix and looks like it was a bit of dirt on the connection.  It did delay us and added just a little bit more stress than was needed for a Monday.

We made it to our new home for the next week, Reflections Massy Greene at Brunswick Heads. Set up went well, the main issue I had was the ground was really hard and had heaps of rocks and random bits of concrete.  It made pegging things down a bit trickier and I had lots of attempts to get pegs into the ground.  I did wait until later in the day, because it was too hot to try in the middle of the day.

The best part about moving day is exploring the surrounding areas, including what facilities the caravan park has to offer.  The town of Brunswick Heads is great and the proximity of the caravan park to the town was great.  All within walking distance, and we visited the shops a lot.  I love having an IGA or small grocer close by, it makes it easier for grabbing bread and milk between grocery shops.  We did grab a few bits and pieces from the local IGA on moving day, but it was really expensive so we were careful about what we chose.  Little miss did think that we should have a party on moving day, I agree.

Downside to our site, we had an ants nest right at the front of the concrete and there were a family of plovers with only 1 baby right near us.  There also wasn't a lot of shade on our site and the orientation means that the inside of the camper trailer caught the breeze and it was quite hot in the annex. We also decided not to have the PVC floor down, after packing it up at Skennars head it was a bit slimy from the rain not draining well underneath. It was given a thorough clean before we left.

The best thing about Brunswick Heads for us was the FAIRY TRAIL. It was amazing to see the detail on these little houses.  If you head to the Information Centre in Brunswick you can get the clues to find these amazing little houses. We spent many hours exploring the fairy trail and talking to the fairies that lived in the little houses.

Brunswick Heads is another place with amazing wildlife. We could hear parrots, kookaburras and whip birds singing late at night or early in the morning.  As well as an abundance of pelicans, seagulls, sea birds and the occasional lizard.

We made a trip to Tweed Head and did a bit of shopping while we were there.  We decided to pop out to Fingal Head, we had originally planned to stay at Fingal Head, but with how windy it's been we decided to skip it this time.  We didn't make it to the beach, little miss saw a playground and had to test it out.  By the time we were finished at the playground the wind had really picked up so we headed back for a bit of quiet time.

We took a few days to complete the FAIRY TRAIL, some of the fairy houses were inside shops and not everything was open on the days we went.  I did take some money with me when we showed Jamie some of the fairy houses, big mistake.  We ended up with some yummy cheese, some clothes and some fishing gear.  Most importantly we bought Little miss some aqua shoes from the fishing shop, the best purchase ever. Little miss loves her aqua shoes and has been wearing them everywhere.

Jamie took the fishing rod to the river for a fish. We had a big talk to little miss about expectations of fishing, and how we don't always catch a fish or if we do they sometimes need to get thrown back if they are baby fish.  Little miss wanted to catch a Grandma fish, but would settle for a Daddy fish or a Mummy fish.  Jamie ended up catching 4 fish, 3 brim and 1 flat head. Only 1 was too small and had to get thrown back.  We ended up with fresh fish and chips for dinner (lucky for me Jamie is a chef and good at cleaning and preparing fish). Jamie did cut his feet on the oyster shells, so a pair of aqua shoes for him and I are on the list of things to buy.  Little miss had her aqua shoes and walked over the oyster shells with no issue, we did discourage her from going near them as best as possible.

While in the caravan park Little miss also made friends with a little boy.  They had a site down by the river, so we passed by their site most days as we walked by the river.  They had a kayak and the kids had great fun going back and forth in the water and playing on the sand.  Little miss didn't want to get off the kayak she was having so much fun, and had been asking to go on a little boat for a while.

The pack up day is a sad day, Little miss's friend was also leaving the next day as well so they had a really big play on the last day.  The bath water was so brown by the end of it. We had the most delicious pizza from Sticky Fingers Pizzeria, its nice to not have to cook on pack up night and we also can't make pizza.  We enjoy it while we can, and it's not something we have every day.

For me, a week in Brunswick Heads was more than enough. I was glad we didn't plan to stay any longer.
