This was our first experience of fossicking for gems in the gemfields. After purchasing our bucket of wash and being given the sieve and tweezers we headed out to the pile of wash. Little miss pointed out where she wanted our wash to come from and the lovely gentleman filled up our bucket.
We settled at a table and learnt how to fossick for sapphires. To start with it all looked like a bunch of wet rocks. The gentleman helped a bit, pointing out which ones were sapphires. The best part was the cafe. It didn't take long for little miss to loose interest. Nothing that an ice cream or babychino couldn't fix. A play in the sandpit also helped.
It took me a little longer to go through our bucket of wash than other people, but it's not a race. By the end of it all we rested and had some lunch.
We left with some sapphire chips and plenty of pet rocks.
